The first five stations within the province of Cavite being built as part of an extended Light Rail Transit 1 (LRT-1) remain on the right course, per an official on Tuesday, October 10.

A project that started development in September 2019, for both civil and rail system works, Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) President and CEO Juan F. Alfonso stated that it has already attained 82.7 percent completion as of March 2023.

Nearing completion, Alfonso estimated that the project will be able to finish the five Cavite stations by the fourth quarter of 2024.

Aimed at making travel easier and more convenient across the metro, he said that Metro Manila will see improved traffic as more railroads become available.

Despite its lofty goal, however, Alfonso confesses that right-of-way poses a major obstacle in the construction of railways, though claims that both the government and the private sector are working together to resolve the dispute. “But the private sector and the government are cooperating to resolve right-of-way issues.”

Right-of-way is the legal right to pass along a particular pathway through grounds or property belonging to another.

To upgrade LRT-1’s present system, LRMC has so far invested over P30 billion for the building of the Cavite stations.
