After the Philippines’ Environment Month, and to celebrate this momentous once-a-year occasion, the country’s largest telecommunications company, PLDT, alongside subsidiary Smart Communications, has launched the operation for its biggest solar rooftop in the Visayas.

Situated along Osmeña Boulevard in Cebu City, PLDT’s third facility in the Visayas region will run partly by solar power energy. The purpose of which is to cut the telco’s carbon footprint by as much as 152 tons of carbon dioxide annually in addition to reducing the company’s bottom line in energy expenditure.

Far from being the sole facility to be equipped with solar panels for additional energy, two more offices in the same region are anticipated, in July, to get their share of the green energy.

Per PLDT and Smart Head of Investor Relations and Chief Sustainability Officer, Melissa Vergel de Dios, the two enterprises are actively looking for opportunities to install further rooftop panels on their facilities, to reap the similar benefits from the existing solar deployments.

In adherence to the environmental pillar aspect of the ESG (environmental, social, and governance) initiatives, Vergel de Dios claims that the companies’ focus is targeted toward green network technologies, renewables, and energy efficiency.
