Do you own a Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+? Planning to go on a trip in Boracay? Well, you’re in luck. Thanks to the wireless technology of the Galaxy S8, your Smart LTE SIM can now have speeds of up to 400Mbps.
Last year, Smart already launched LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) connection in Boracay that delivered speeds of up to 250Mbps. Now, Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ users can enjoy ramped up speeds of as fast as 400Mbps.
Smart Communications, Inc. partnered with Huawei Technologies Philippines to enable 4-component carrier (4CC) aggregation in Boracay. They were able to achieve up to 280Mbps speeds during initial tests on a test software running on Samsung’s current flagships.
The 400Mbps to 500Mbps mark was achieved via 4×4 Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO) and 256 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) wireless technology that’s running on Smart’s network. The software needed to obtain this feat will be available to Galaxy S8 and S8+ users via a software update.
This move from Smart is an attempt to help Boracay stay on of top tourist destinations in the Philippines. But aside from Boracay, Smart has also established LTE-A connections in other major urbanized locations such as in Metro Manila, Rizal, Metro Davao, and Metro Cebu.
