Smart announced on Wednesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding together with KT Corp, South Korea’s second-largest wireless carrier, to look into 5G innovations that will benefit Filipino users.
Smart’s strategic partnership head, Katrina Luna-Abelarde, said that this team-up would lead to creating a “truly world-class 5G ecosystem with life-changing experiences.” But to accomplish that, Luna-Abelarde acknowledges the need to team up with prominent industry players such as KT Corp.

Meanwhile, KT head of global business unit Justin Moon said the timing is important in digital transformation and hoped that the two companies could grow and discover new business.
Smart is currently the top carrier in the Philippines in terms of speed, 5G reliability and many other metrics. The telecom recently rolled out standalone 5G sites in Makati City, which has made a distinction as one of the first 5G standalone networks in the world.
KT Corp already works with PLDT on the Jupiter cable.
