Smart has just launched its newest product for international travelers.
The Smart Travel WiFi is a step up from Smart Surf Abroad, enabling a much cheaper and more efficient mobile internet service for travelers around the world.
Unlike Smart Surf Abroad, you don’t need a SIM Card and you’re not locked in to a specific carrier. Instead, wherever you are in a country, you’ll get hooked up with the carrier that has the best signal. You will not be locked in a specific country too, which means your subscription will carry over in case you travel to another country in a 24 hour period. Sweet, right?
How much? It costs only Php390 per day for Asian destinations including; China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

For other countries like Egypt, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Australia, Middle East, and United States of America – it costs Php490 per day for 1GB of data. What happens after you consume the data allocation? According to Smart, you’ll still have internet access to basic social media and messaging apps, but on a limited speed.
Customers have a choice to buy the Smart Travel WiFi device for Php4,995 or borrow one from Smart whenever they want to go out of the country.

Same here. I availed of it today for my Tokyo trip, thinking that it would be at least half as fast as the standard speed in Japan. To my dismay, they only had 3 MBPS (both download and upload speed)!!! My friend rented a pocket wifi that costs the same – 27 MBPS download speed!
Bottom line, don’t bring the sh*tty internet speed of Smart abroad. Don’t ever hesitate getting those that are readily available rental wifi at Japan’s airports.
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! Availed 1 last April first week, didn’t work on the first day. Worst is it has been two months now and still my deposit has not been refunded and unit has long been picked up. You can only email them but they dont respond to your emails. You call customer service but all they can do is also email the department handling this and just tell you to wait. I’m suspecting this is some kind of scam. SMART pag maningil instant pero pag refund na, walang sagot, Deadma lang lahat.
