Instead of building new iterations to its Fire HD 8 line-up of tablets, Amazon is revamping the Fire HD 8 with a faster processor, an expanded RAM, and a USB-C connectivity.
The updated model comes in three variants, namely the vanilla Amazon Fire HD 8, Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Edition, and Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus.
The Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 8 Kids Edition are basically similar models, but with the latter bearing special protective design aimed at preventing damage.

The big change comes with the Fire HD 8 and its Kid version counterpart’s better processor, which is a quad-core CPU that is clocked at 2.0 GHz. As per Amazon, it provides 30% better performance than the previous model. To better handle multiple running multiple applications, Amazon has set 2GB of RAM.
Both the Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 8 Kids Edition will be shipped with either a 32GB or 64GB of on-board storage memory, but will also cater for more storage capacity with its micro-SD slot.
Having a more significant improvement than the mentioned models is the Fire HD 8 Plus model that comes enhanced with 3GB of RAM and features wireless charging capability that is new to the Fire HD line-up. Coincidentally, those who would purchase the Fire HD 8 Plus has the option to avail of wireless charging dock.

All models will still adhere to the original’s 8-inches display, but is considerably contrasted by the newer designs’ thicker bezels on all sides. In addition, they also feature 2MP back and front cameras, dual speakers, and Fire OS running on top of Android.
As for battery, the updated models run at an estimated duration of 12 hours on a single charge.
The Amazon Fire HD 8 model will see a price tag of $90 (~Php4,500) on retail, but can also be bought in pairs for $160 (~Php8,200). Meanwhile, the Kid Edition will sell at a higher retail price at $140 (~Php7,200), but comes with a year’s subscription of Amazon’s FreeTime parental control and kid’s content app. Lastly, the Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus will sell at $110 (~Php5,600) and comes bundled with Kindle Unlimited valid for 6 months.
