Both ASUS and Huawei have been mastering the art of creating low-cost and value-oriented smartphones. Their efforts are clearly showing in their latest sub-Php10k smartphones.

The ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Huawei Nova 2 Lite are showcases of the learnings that both companies had over the years of creating budget-friendly smartphones. These devices are made to provide the best value for every penny that consumers are going to spend on a smartphone.

The Nova 2 Lite came from the family of Huawei smartphones that are meant to be the go-to bang-for-the-buck handsets. In fact, that’s actually Huawei’s motto from the beginning, and they are continuing that even on their high-end offerings.

On the other hand, the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 is the company’s attempt to get back the crown in the midrange category. Just like what they were known for a few years back.

So the question is, which between these two devices actually brings the best value for money? Let’s figure that out in our ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Huawei Nova 2 Lite specifications and features comparison below.

The ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 obviously beats the Huawei Nova 2 Lite in this comparison. While  ASUS hasn’t revealed its official local pricing yet, its lead against Huawei’s handset is miles ahead for the price difference to matter.

For one, the Zenfone Max Pro M1 uses a snappier Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, which is obviously far better than the Snapdragon 430 chipset found on the Nova 2 Lite. Screen-wise, it has a 5.99-inch Full HD+ panel — significantly better than the HD+ display found on the latter.

The Zenfone Max Pro M1 is also offered in different RAM, storage, and camera configurations. But if we were to speculate, we will most likely see the 4GB/64GB model here in the Philippines with the 8-megapixel front camera and 13-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual rear cameras.

ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 - Specs, Features

That combination is marginally better than the 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual cameras that the Nova 2 Lite. Although we gotta hand it to Huawei for adding a selfie-toning flash on their offering.

The Huawei Nova 2 Lite also has facial recognition as a security feature, apart from the fingerprint scanner on the back. It works really well, and it gets my face 90% of the time. I rarely had to use the fingerprint sensor because the integration is so seamless.

Turning to the battery department, we’re seeing the same story. The Nova 2 Lite has a modest 3,000mAh battery,  which is nothing against the enormous 5000mAh battery capacity of the Zenfone Max Pro M1.

In conclusion, the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 is the clear winner here — in terms of specs. Until ASUS reveals its official price in the Philippines, it’s hard to really compare it to other smartphones. Meanwhile, if you’re on tight budget, the Php9,990 Huawei Nova 2 Lite is also a good buy as it’s equipped with everything a modern day smartphone should have.
