Several hours to go and we’re about to enter another year but before we fire up the fireworks to celebrate later, take a look at this new devices from Cherry Mobile first. These are not heavyweights but they are still nice and simple which specifically targets people who want to try Android for the first time.

The first one is an affordable android phone running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread – Cherry Mobile Rave. At first glance, we could probably think of the older Cherry Mobile W100 because of the resemblance in specifications and the 3.5-inch HVGA display. However, despite being some kind of replacement on the W100, it somehow has slightly lower specs.

The 2-megapixel camera, for instance, is not on par with the 3.2-megapixel main and VGA front-facing camera of the W100. Other internals like the 1GHz Snapdragon are the same and while we still haven’t confirmed the RAM, let’s take it as 512MB for now as 256MB is quite low. In terms of connectivity, it has just about everything from Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G, and GPS. Perhaps this was a downgrade? What do you think? Nonetheless, for only Php3,299, the Cherry Mobile Rave is already a good deal.

Cherry Mobile Superion Plus Duo

[two_fifth]”We’re hoping to see a quad-core phone/tablet with Jelly Bean on Q1 of 2013.”[/two_fifth]

On the tablet side, Cherry Mobile Superion Plus Duo is one rocking 7-inch tablet that’s priced for only Php6,999. It is powered by a Snapdragon 1.2GHz dual-core processor and although the RAM is not specified yet, we’re pretty sure that it’s 512MB. It runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and has phone functions (texting and calling) so that you can surf on the go even without a Wi-Fi hotspot near you through its 3G connectivity. Oh, if you’ll use it as a phone,  just don’t use it directly when taking calls because you’ll look silly. You need to plug-in those earphones, please.

So are you getting any of these two? They are great deals especially the Superion Plus Duo because for just a price of Php7k, it’s already a full-fledged tablet. Meanwhile, the Cherry Mobile Rave is a little shorthanded since the Flare is just Php700 away. 2013 is just around the corner and we can only expect more awesome devices from local brands by then. We’re hoping to see a quad-core phone/tablet with Jelly Bean on Q1 of 2013. How about you?
