Huawei’s Honor brand has been known to be the former’s budget-products arm. But with the brand’s new release, it look’s like Huawei is taking Honor for a different ride. Meet the Huawei Honor 9, the company’s fanciest device to date.
Announced in China, the new Huawei Honor 9 looks premium just at first glance. Judging by the official product pictures, the Honor 9 has an insanely reflective back panel which is said to be a combination of metal and glass. This design touch kind of reminds me of the HTC U11.
Going past its fancy looks, the Huawei Honor 9 also looks impressive on the inside. This beauty brags a 2.4GHz Kirin 960 octa-core processor and an option for either a 4GB and 6GB or RAM.
The Honor 9 also has an unusual screen size of 5.15-inch. The display has a sharp 1080p resolution on an LTPS panel. It might not be a ludicrous 4K display with HDR, but still flagship-worthy.
But what makes the Huawei Honor 9 a legitimate high-end smartphone is its dual camera setup. This thing is rigged with a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor and a 12-megapixel standard sensor at the back. This is the same implementation that they did with the Huawei P10.
Other than for taking black and white photos, the second sensor also provides 2x optical zoom just like the iPhone 7 Plus, ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom, and quite possible the new OPPO R11.
While the monochrome effect is a personal favorite of mine, I’m pretty sure not everyone appreciates it. Thankfully, the second camera also has other use. Just like most dual camera smartphones, the Honor 9 lets you take pictures with a bokeh effect.
