LG-G7-ThinQ

After being delayed, LG has finally released a proper flagship smartphone. Today they introduced the new LG G7 ThinQ, and it packs almost all of the features that you’d want to see from a 2018 smartphone.

As what you might expect, the LG G7 ThinQ has a lot of things going on with it, which we can already tell by its mouthful and a little awkward name. To make it easier, we listed several notable and big changes with LG’s new flagship smartphone.

Display notch, downgraded screen panel

LG was expected to unveil the G7 back in Mobile World Congress 2018. However, the plan was scrapped and they released the V30s and V30s+ ThinkQ instead. Rumors suggest that LG was having some internal issues which eventually caused the delay. We don’t have information about that, though, as they probably want to keep it a secret.

LG G7 ThinQ - Specs, Features

But whatever the case may be, the LG G7 ThinQ is now here, and it has a display notch. In the settings menu, LG is calling it as a second screen — which can be a nod to the dual-screen smartphones that they have pioneered from the LG V10 back in 2015. But the thing is, it is still a standard notch.

Another thing to note is that the display of the LG G7 ThinQ has been downgraded to an IPS panel. For the longest time, LG has been using OLED screens on their high-end devices. Probably one of the reasons they went back is because IPS panels are much brighter, easier, and cheaper to produce.

Additionally, the display covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space and has Dolby Vision and HDR10 compliance.

Fast processor, AI, Dedicated assistant button

As expected, LG’s new flagship device is equipped with one of the fastest processors around. This handset runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, with 4GB/6GB of RAM, and 64GB/128GB of internal storage.

In addition, the reason behind its LG G7 “ThinQ” branding is its Artificial Intelligence (AI) prowess. A lot of manufacturers are fond of using the term “AI” in their devices’ features nowadays, so we’re not surprised about this at all. But only until we get our hands on, we can’t tell how it fares against other competing smartphones.

Speaking of AI, LG is also doubling down its virtual assistant. They are so committed that they even added a dedicated assistant button hardware — just like Samsung. It also has a powerful built-in microphone so it can pick up your voice even as far as 5 meters.

Unfortunately, like Samsung’s dedicated hardware, the button is not remappable. Thankfully, it uses Google’s own assistant which is the best virtual assistant around.

Quad-DAC, Loud loudspeakers

LG has always been serious about their audio game — and it clearly shows in the new LG G7 ThinQ. This phone is equipped with a 32-bit HiFi DAC, which can power pretty much any high-end headphones at full fidelity.

The LG G7 ThinQ also features a really loud loudspeaker. LG claims that they used the remaining space inside of the device to house serious speaker drivers. But on the downside, it’s not on a stereo setup which is kinda a letdown.

The official pricing and availability of the LG G7 ThinQ are yet to be announced.

UPDATE: LG G7 price in the Philippines is Php42,990.
