The punch-hole camera design has reached the midrange segment, with Samsung leading the charge on bringing this latest design on more affordable smartphones.
With punch-hole screens, manufacturers have found a way to cleverly eliminate the notch (or at least make it a bit bearable) by creating a cutout on the display for the selfie camera. We’ve seen this being implemented in flagship smartphones, even on midrange ones like the Samsung Galaxy A60.
Other than having this unique design, the Galaxy A60 also comes with great features for the price. Which we rarely say on Samsung devices like this.
But just recently, the company also revealed the Samsung Galaxy M40. It’s another midrange device from their arsenal that comes with a punch-hole camera.
If you’re really into that punch-hole display game, then our Samsung Galaxy A60 vs Galaxy M40 specs comparison shall help you decide which between these two you should get. Let’s start.

Well, we kind of already seen this coming. As what you just saw, the Samsung Galaxy A60 and Galaxy M40 is basically the same device. They even have the same dimensions and weight.
The two share the same 6.3-inch FHD+ IPS display, with the aforementioned Infinity-O punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. They also come with 32-megapixel primary cameras on the back, which is bundled with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide shooter and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.
Of course, there’s also the processor. The Galaxy A60 and Galaxy M40 are powered by the trusty Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 octa-core processor, with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, and an Adreno 612 for gaming.
They both lack an OLED screen that the Galaxy A50 has. Which means that it’s using a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner on the back. However, in our Galaxy A50 review, we found out that Samsung’s ultrasonic fingerprint scanner performed poorly when compared to the traditional one, so this shouldn’t be a big issue.
To make the bezels as thin as possible, both devices sport a screen sound technology. This means that the audio will be coming out right from the display itself. A Dolby Atmos technology is also present on both of them.
Probably the only main difference between the two is their selfie cameras. The Galaxy A60 only comes with a 16-megapixel front-facing sensor, while the Galaxy M40 offers a sharper 32-megapixel selfie snapper.
In an attempt to set them apart, Samsung dressed the Galaxy M40 in different hues of blue (Midnight Blue and Seawater Blue). Meanwhile, the Galaxy A60 provides more contrast as it’s available in a subtle Daybreak Black or a flashy Cocktail Orange options.

Since they are essentially the same device, both the Samsung Galaxy A60 and Galaxy M40 have a similar price. The former retails for CNY1,999 (~Php15,500) in China, while the Samsung Galaxy M40 is available in India for INR19,990 (~Php15,000).
Both of their official price and release details in the Philippines are yet to be announced. But by the looks of it, we’ll only be getting either one of them to prevent redundancy. And since the Galaxy A60 has been official for a while now, and we never got to have it, I think we’ll have more chance on the M40.
