Sony has introduced its latest flagship smartphone for 2024, the Xperia 1 VI. This new model focuses heavily on audio, gaming, and display improvements.
In their press release, Sony highlighted several key features of the Xperia 1 VI, starting with its advanced display. The phone comes with a BRAVIA-powered 6.5-inch screen, which is said to be 150% brighter compared to its predecessor. Additionally, Sony has developed a “Sunlight Vision” feature to enhance screen visibility in outdoor settings.
The Xperia 1 VI is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor at its core. For better photography capabilities, the proprietary Exmor T sensor helps with AI processing. 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage are also onboard. In terms of software, the device comes with Android 14 pre-installed and will receive 3 years of major OS upgrades and 4 years of security updates.

The device features a 52-megapixel main camera, 12-megapixel ultrawide, and 12-megapixel telephoto lens. Its telephoto can zoom for 3.5x to 7.1x, with its focal length of 85mm to 170mm. Another notable feature is the “human pose estimation” AF tracking, which is an an AI-driven technology inspired by Sony’s Alpha cameras. This feature recognizes a human body to provide precise tracking, even if objects partially obstruct the subject.
Complementing these camera improvements, Sony has also updated the camera app. The new app features a user-friendly interface while keeping all creative options easily accessible. There are various shooting modes like PSM and color presets available for users to experiment with. Touch tracking allows for color adjustments, and the new Pro mode offers comprehensive settings for shooting videos.

For gaming enthusiasts, the Xperia 1 VI includes the new “FPS Optimizer.” This feature boosts frame rates and CPU usage, depending on the game being played. To improve input accuracy, Sony provides two levels of “tap accuracy” and three tracking speeds.
The device also boasts enhanced sound quality through the Premium Audio Circuit, optimized for use with 3.5mm headphones. Sony notes that the upgraded speaker unit enhances low-frequency output and reduces sound distortion. There’s also support for AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) in select wireless headphones, High-Resolution Audio, LDAC, Snapdragon Sound, and more.
The Xperia 1 VI is equipped with a standard 5,000mAh battery and support for 30W fast charging. With low-power display consumption and a heat-dissipating component, the device could last for up to 36 hours of video playback. Sony claims the handset can be charged to 50% in as fast as 30 minutes. To help maintain battery health, the Xperia Adaptive Charging and Battery Care features are available.
Available in Platinum Silver, Khaki Green, and Black, the new Sony Xperia 1 VI is priced at £1,299 (~Php94,500). It’s expected to be released in June 2024.
