Vivo is pulling out a name from OPPO’s books with the introduction of the Vivo V9 Youth.
Previously, the company went ahead with the Vivo V7+ and Vivo V7 naming scheme. But this time around, they’re adopting the ‘Youth’ style by going with the Vivo V9 Youth.
The company was probably thinking that perhaps the price of the new Vivo V9 is too expensive for some people, so they made a more affordable variant with the same look and design.
The Vivo V9 Youth is exactly the same phone as its bigger brother, but with less powerful specifications on the inside. Instead of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626, the Youth version uses a Snapdragon 450 chipset similar to the brand’s previous V-series smartphone.
Cameras were also replaced with a 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel configuration, a slight step down from the 5-megapixel sensor of the more premium model. The 4K video recording feature has been removed as well, so it only captures video in 1080p.
Surprisingly, the selfie camera also took a hit — going down to 16-megapixel from 24-megapixel. Good thing Vivo kept the face unlock feature which is a big convenience in day-to-day smartphone life.
Other hardware parts were left untouched. There’s still the 6.3-inch Full HD+ screen with a tall 19:9 aspect ratio because of the display notch. The RAM is still 4GB plus the 64GB of onboard storage with expansion option.
The Vivo V9 Youth runs on FunTouchOS 4.0 with Android 8.0 Oreo underneath. It’s also relatively slim, measuring only 154.81 x 75.03 x 7.89mm. Weight is 150g which is decent for its huge footprint. For the rest of the specs, you can check it here.
Color options are Champagne Gold and Pearl Black. The price of Vivo V9 Youth is INR 18,990 or around Php15,000 when directly converted to our currency. We expect Vivo to release the official pricing and availability information in the Philippines in the coming weeks.
