Vivo’s flagship smartphone for the remaining days of 2016 is here.
The Vivo XPlay 6 completes the Chinese giant’s line-up for the coming gift giving season. Other handsets that were recently announced include the Vivo V5 for the entry-level market, and Vivo X9 and X9 Plus for the mid-range.
At first glance, the Vivo XPlay 6 reminds me a lot of the Galaxy S7 from Samsung. The front has a dedicated home button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner, 16-megapixel selfie camera at the top, as well as a slight curve on the side edges.
Specs-wise, there’s not much of a difference compared to its predecessor. The display is 5.46-inch with a pixel resolution 0f 1440p. Even though SD 821 is becoming increasingly popular, Vivo still went for an older 64-bit Snapdragon 820 chipset. The RAM is still 6GB but the internal storage has been doubled to 128GB out of the box.
At the back, Vivo XPlay 6 comes equipped with a dual camera configuration headed by a 12-megapixel Sony IMX362 sensor partnered with an additional secondary 5-megapixel shooter. Other camera features are 4-axis OIS, quick 0.03 second focus, 1.2μ pixels, and f/1.7 aperture.

While the design obviously took a lot of inspiration from its competitors, Vivo has accomplished a very impressive feat. The Vivo XPlay measures only 5.92mm at its thickest point, which is one of the slimmest in the world. But not only that, they’ve also managed to put up a sizable capacity of 4080mAh.
Top-notch hardware simply means high-end price and that stays true here. In fact, it’s even more expensive than the flagship from popular brands.
The Vivo XPlay is priced at 4498 Yuan ($655) or approximately Php32,500. Units will be available in China starting December 12.
