Proton AG, the company behind the end-to-end encryption email service ProtonMail, has just launched a new product that promises secure and safe management of passwords for users, and it is out from beta now—Proton Pass.

Described as one of the community’s “most highly demanded services,” Proton listened as it enters a congested market of charge-free password managers. But while details about the app’s security audit remain obscure until some weeks later, Proton Pass is nevertheless striving to beat the competition with a successful security audit from Cure53.

Switzerland is a country known for having one of the most robust data privacy laws, making Proton to be in the best position in keeping its customers’ sensitive information on its servers. A belief echoed by the company itself.

Having established itself as a respectable business in the industry, Proton gets its thanks to its strong security system that guarantees the opaqueness of users’ compromising data or end-to-end encryption of all information, which includes the web address, user name, and password, suggesting user anonymity even to Proton itself.

Akin to a system developed by Apple, Proton also promotes strong anonymity to users through a feature called “hide-my-email alias,” which masks the user’s actual email address with a randomly generated one.

In a blog, the company accentuates the said feature’s importance in offsetting third-party entities from identifying their clients, while simultaneously filtering out trackers and marketing tools, resulting in lesser spam.

While the hide-my-email alias is accessible to everyone, free users are only limited to using it 10 times. Users who pay a monthly subscription of $3.99 as Proton Pass Plus users, however, have unlimited access to the aforementioned functionality. Meanwhile, users who choose to subscribe to the Proton Pass Plus subscription before July ends gets a lifetime promo of $1 per month.
