Windows 10 will not only arrive as a free upgrade for Windows Phone devices; computers powered by Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 can also transition to the upcoming Windows version for free during its first year of availability.

If you’ve been living under a rock, Windows 10 is the next major upgrade whose UI is a blend of the ones found in the user-friendly Windows 7 and much-maligned Windows 8. It’s Microsoft’s one true operating system for all computing devices, including personal computers, smartphones and the Xbox gaming console. It features the intelligent personal assistant Microsoft Cortana, a revamped Action Center for notifications and the minimalistic Spartan web browser.

For those who can’t wait to get a taste of Windows 10, a technical preview version is already available. The final product is slated for release later this year. No pricing information is currently available for when the first year no-cost upgrade promotion expires.
