Spotify, the global leader in music streaming, has unveiled its latest innovation in personalized entertainment: the AI Playlist. This cutting-edge feature promises to redefine how users discover and create playlists, catering to their unique tastes and moods with just a simple prompt.

The AI Playlist operates on a beta version and is currently exclusive to Premium subscribers using Android and iOS devices in the United Kingdom and Australia. In an official statement, Spotify detailed how the feature works: users can generate a playlist by inputting a creative prompt, ranging from simple themes like “90s classic rock playlist” to more specific scenarios such as “lonely music while walking in the rain.”

Spotify’s machine learning algorithms will interpret prompts that can include various elements such as places, colors, animals, activities, movie characters, and even emojis. The service encourages users to blend different descriptors to finely tune the vibe they aim to capture in their music selection.

To access the AI Playlist, eligible users can tap the “+” button located in the top right portion of the library page. From there, they can select the AI Playlist option, either picking an existing suggestion or crafting one of their own. Spotify will then generate a tailored playlist which users can preview, edit by removing tracks, and even add notes to refine their preferences. Once satisfied with the curation, hitting “Create” will save the new playlist to the user’s library.

This initiative follows Spotify’s previous venture into AI-driven features with the introduction of its AI DJ late last year. The AI DJ curates a mix of tracks based on a user’s listening habits, with the added flexibility of adjusting the selection if it doesn’t quite hit the mark.
