Did you just buy a brand-new motorcycle with less than 200cc engine displacement? Here’s some good news, as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) will now grant you a registration that is valid for three years.

As per the LTO, this new move will benefit around 2 million motorcycle units. In a statement published last Sunday, the LTO said that the Memorandum Circular JMT-2023-2395 will increase the registration validity to three years, which was previously only applicable to engine displacements with 201cc and up.

According to LTO Chief Jose Arturo “Jay Art” Tugade, they don’t expect such motorcycles to have problems with roadworthiness after three years since they are brand-new.

He added that the agency believes that the new implementation will benefit a lot of drivers who are seeking to have their new motorcycles registered to be used for their livelihood.

Tugade said that the new memorandum circular is in line with the LTO’s efforts to speed up processes and ease the agency’s transactions with the motoring public.

Under the new mandate, the LTO will inspect and register motor vehicles, issue licenses and permits, and enforce land transportation rules and regulations, collect revenue for the government, and adjudicates traffic cases.
