Yet another ride-hailing app becomes available for Filipinos. The Unified Transport Operations League (UTOL) recently received approval from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory (LTFRB) to operate as a transport network company.
A homegrown company fully owned by Filipinos, UTOL aims not only to provide affordable four-wheel ride-sharing services for the commuting public by charging lower surge rates but also to address the needs of transport network vehicle owners, drivers, and operators. The company claims to be distinct by treating drivers and operators as family, a sentiment rooted in the company name that alludes to the colloquial Filipino word that means “sibling” or “close friend.”
UTOL began operations in parts of Metro Manila after amassing 600 drivers and operators, with plans to expand across the National Capital Region by June and to nearby provinces in the next three months. The company is also eyeing the two-wheel vehicle segment but is waiting for government to finish conducting its pilot testing and finalize the regulations.

According to the Roland Maningas, the company’s chief executive and board chairman, UTOL is providing an alternative livelihood for jeepney drivers affected by the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization program. He also believes there is an existing transportation shortage that, along with present difficulties passengers face in booking rides, the entry of UTOL into the market would help address.
With a commitment to safety and support for its users, UTOL features a help button in its app that both passengers and drivers can use in times of emergency for immediate assistance.
