Honor has officially returned in the Philippines and they brought two competitive smartphones. The entry-level smartphone market has been long saturated by local and international manufacturers, which means that the competition here is fierce.
Today, we’re taking a look at the more affordable of the two — the Honor 9 Lite. Under Php8k, the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro is one of the go-to buys for the consumers. Honor would like to change that, as they challenge everyone to get a share of the mobile market in PH.
If you’re shopping in the entry-level price range, which smartphone should you get? Let’s find out in our Honor 9 Lite and Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro specifications and features comparison.

Right off the bat, the Honor 9 Lite takes the lead in the software department. It’s running on a more recent version of Android, 8.0 Oreo. Meanwhile, the Galaxy J2 Pro is lagging behind with only Android 7.1.2 Nougat.
The chipset used is more powerful as well as it’s also seen in midrange devices like the Honor 7X and Nova 2i. Samsung’s offering uses a mediocre Snapdragon 425 which is meant for the budget segment.
In terms of screen, the Honor 9 Lite’s 5.65-inch display and 1080p resolution are definitely far better compared to the small 5-inch qHD of the Galaxy J2 Pro. The only thing going on for Samsung in this department is the famous Super AMOLED panel which offers punchy and better colors than IPS.

Honor 9 Lite also has twice the amount of memory and storage as the Galaxy J2 Pro with its 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage. Both are expandable, though, so users who need more space can easily attach a microSD card to add more.
The same story continues on the cameras. The Galaxy J2 Pro only features an 8-megapixel shooter on the back and 5-megapixel in front with LED flash. On the other hand, the Honor 9 Lite is equipped with 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel cameras on both sides. For security, the two phones have fingerprint scanners but the Honor also has facial recognition built-in.
Battery capacity is 3,000mAh for Honor while Samsung only has 2,600mAh. However, considering the beefier hardware and screen of the Honor 9 Lite, they would probably end up with the same uptime.
Overall, there’s really nothing to compare about as the Honor 9 Lite clearly decimates Samsung’s Galaxy J2 Pro in almost all aspects. Its Php500 difference is definitely a no-brainer. If you want more value for the money, the Php7,990 is the way to go. Otherwise, if you want the trusted option, choose the Php7,490 Galaxy J2 Pro.
