Slam Dunk, one of the most popular basketball anime, is getting a movie that’s expected to launch in Japan by fall next year. Earlier this week, a teaser trailer was released announcing that the film will premiere in Fall 2022.
The Slam Dunk movie is being written and directed by Takehiko Inoue himself, the creator of the franchise.
Back in January, news about the upcoming film was revealed by the author through an announcement on his official Twitter account. Not much information was available during that time, it’s been confirmed that TOEI Animation will be the partner studio to do the film.
Takehiko Inoue’s original Slam Dunk manga series is a regular in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump from October 1990 to June 1996. It had a total of 31 volumes.
TOEI Animation adapted SlamDunk into an anime TV series, which broadcasted worldwide from October 1993 to March 1996.
