We already know Apple sees gaming as a market worth investing in, with the launch of Apple Arcade as a video game subscription service for iOS. But it seems the company is getting more serious in gaming, as rumor has it that Apple is working on a handheld console that will rival the likes of the Nintendo Switch and the Steam Deck.
Per these rumors, Apple will reportedly be releasing soon a hybrid console with mass-market appeal. Think of performance that’s between the Switch and the Sony PlayStation 5.
Earlier this year, a report claimed Apple was working on a system-on-a-chip with graphics power that would support ray tracing. Apple is also reportedly developing an augmented/virtual reality headset as a complement for the console.
Mind you, this isn’t Apple’s first attempt at gaming hardware. But where the Apple Bandai Pippin failed, maybe this upcoming Apple handheld console will find success.
