A new sustainable energy initiative of the Pasig City Government was inaugurated on Monday, 100kw on-grid solar power system.

Vico Sotto, Mayor of Pasig City, spearheaded the inauguration which was held at Pasig Sports Center.

Sotto says the project costs Php6.6 million, which is way cheaper than previous executions of their LGU. The conservative estimate for its return on investment (ROI) is 6 to 10 years, but the local executive stressed that aside from the financial benefit, the project is also good for the environment.

Under the Republic Act No. 11285 or the “Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act” (EEC Act), government units and private entities are mandated to promote energy efficiency and usage of renewable energy technology.

Solar power projects are one of the strategies used by the government to reduce the environmental impacts caused by utilization and energy generation as imposed by the Philippine Energy Plan (PEP) and the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program (NEECP).
