Vying to bring the Public Education Network (PEN) to life, the Department of Education (DepEd) alongside the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has teamed up for the campaign.

Officiating the collaboration are the two agencies’ respective representatives, DICT secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II and DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, who both signed two Memorandum of Agreements (MOA) on Friday, April 16.

The PEN program seeks to bolster the transmission of education in schools, highlighting the aspects of connectivity, broadcast, and digital security. More specifically, it seeks to build a digital interconnectedness among public schools as well as DepEd offices and pave way for learners to gain broader access to DepEd-sponsored programs and other learning platforms.

A project that has been at least a year in the making, the two government agencies have been in talks about PEN since April 2020.
