Do you watch YouTube on Android TV a lot and want to remove pesky ads? Here’s how.
Getting rid of ads is now more important than ever, as YouTube recently announced that they will be introducing 30-second unskippable ads on smart TVs. In addition, YouTube is also putting up ads when you pause videos.
That said, today we’ll show you how you can eliminate YouTube ads on Android TV. The first method is free, albeit a bit finicky, while the second is more convenient — but as you know, convenience costs money. Let’s begin.

How to remove YouTube ads on Android TV for free
Download SmartTubeNext (STN) and follow the install process on its GitHub page.
The installation process can be tricky, but once you’ve done it, you’re good to go as the app can automatically update itself. The best part is, it also works on Google TV, NVIDIA Shield, Amazon Fire TV, and other Android-based TV boxes like the Xiaomi Mi Box, Realme Smart Google TV Stick, Mi TV Stick, and more.
Other than blocking ads, it also has picture-in-picture (PiP) mode, HDR, and SponsorBlock that skips ad reads that creators do within their videos.
Do take note that the app has its quirks with some instability, which is common with this kind of apps. Still, it’s an apt price to pay to remove annoying ads.
The most convenient way to remove ads? YouTube Premium
The first method is free but is quite complex to do and comes with a fussy app. That said, if you want a seamless experience, it might be best to pay for YouTube Premium.
You don’t have to do it directly, though. Another option is to use a reliable VPN and use your browser in a country with a cheaper YouTube Premium subscription. The cheapest one is from India, which costs INR129 (~Php88). There’s also Argentina for ARS389 (~Php92).
But if you live in the Philippines, look nowhere else as the subscription here is one of the cheapest in the world at only Php159/month for a single account and Php239/month for family (up to 6 users).
If you’re eligible, you can get a Premium account for an even cheaper price Php95 per month by getting the YouTube Premium student discount.
