If you’re a mobile gamer in the market for a new smartphone, you might want to steer clear of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

As tested by PhoneArena, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro could only last up to three hours and a minute in their 3D gaming test. The result was quite disappointing, as last year’s generation of iPhones and the Samsung Galaxy S20 series could last more than twice that amount. To be fair, Apple’s latest smartphones fared well in web browsing and video playback battery tests.

The testers suggested the Apple A14 Bionic chip might be at fault. The phones’ lowered battery capacity, both at 2815mAh, could also be the culprit behind the poor battery life.

But of course, there’s one workaround if you insist on getting the new iPhones to play games: sacrifice mobility and become a “wall hugger,” with the phone plugged into the charger as you play.
