Following in what appears to be the footsteps of two of the industry’s bigger known names in the digital single-lens reflex (DLSR) camera business, another company is reportedly bidding its adieu—Hasselblad.
While Hasselblad itself has yet to make an official announcement on the topic, a blog post by third-party vendor Capture Integration bears grim news to those who loved the brand.
According to the report, the Hasselblad business partner affirmed the “end of life for the Hasselblad H system,” seemingly referencing the manufacturer’s choice of discontinuing the product. For Capture Integration, at least, the announcement seems all true, as stocks are no more and with no plans of them getting replenished.

Although this is inevitably yet another classic case of the industry transforming itself by ditching the old and embracing the new, it remains to be sad news, especially among DSLR aficionados.
As of writing, there are only a few notable companies that still produce DSLR in the market—Ricoh and Pentax—as everybody else has already jumped onto the mirrorless bandwagon.
Only time will tell when the DSLR product will eventually die out due to obsoletion. And right now, it only seems apparent that the mirrorless camera is setting up the trend in personal and professional photography.
