Cherry Mobile launched the Flare S3 smartphone last year in August, only two weeks after the Flare 3’s release. Both sold for the same price, and prospective buyers debated which phone was better than the other. A similar debate or confusion may happen again this year, because Cherry Mobile has announced the Flare S4 and the Flare 4 with the same retail price of Php4,999.

Based on the internal hardware alone, there’s little to differentiate the Cherry Mobile Flare S4 from the Flare 4. Both feature a 5-inch HD IPS display, 1.3GHz octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. They also have the same camera resolutions, dual SIM configuration and battery capacity.

On the other hand, the Cherry Mobile Flare 4 supports the 1800/2100/2600MHz LTE frequencies, measures 142.8×70.4x8mm and comes in pink, black, white and gold color variants.

Perhaps the issue simply boils down to the question of which is aesthetically better in the eyes of the prospective buyer. We’ll let you know once we learn more about the devices.
