Gionee, the company that brought us the “world’s slimmest smartphone” earlier this year, is prepping an even thinner device—the Gionee Elife S5.1. As the name implies, it’s only 5.15mm thin!
While it succeeds as the latest holder of the aforementioned world title, the Gionee Elife S5.1 is not as powerful as its predecessor, the then thinnest Elife S5.5. At best, the S5.1 is midrange device: it employs a Snapdragon 400 processor, Adreno 305 graphics, and 1GB of RAM.
The screen is also smaller at only 4.8 inches diagonal in comparison to the S5.5’s 5-inch display. Given the very slim profile, Gionee only managed to fit in a 2100mAh battery, which is probably why the company didn’t want to use power-hungry, high-end hardware so as to prolong the battery life.
Gionee Elife S5.1 Specs

The Gionee Elife S5.1 sports a beautiful body design that can be attributed to its use of glass and metal. We’re hoping that it will receive an Android 4.4 KitKat update in the near future (for a much needed boost in battery life and performance), but in the meantime there’s Android 4.3 powering the device. Gionee’s own custom user interface, the Amigo 2.0, is loaded on top of the operating system.
While the company still has to make an official announcement, the Gionee Elife S5.1 is expected to release this month in China. The price remains unknown. The handset will be sold in different colors: black, white, pink, and blue.
