Besides its really affordable price tag, there are a couple of other things to like about the latest Honor 8C.

With the HONOR 8C, you’re getting a smartphone that is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 octa-core processor, a large 4,000mAh battery, and a tall 6.26-inch HD+ display.

We’ll be talking more about all those features, including how they performed in real-world use, in our full review. This time, what we want to focus on is its camera capabilities.

Before we begin, let’s get the hardware specifics out of the way first. The HONOR 8C has a 13-megapixel primary camera on the back, which is partnered by a 2-megapixel depth-sensor, phase-detection autofocus, and a dual-tone flash.

Now, let’s talk about the actual image quality. The first images that you’d see below were taken with the AI scene detection mode off.

As you can see, the 13-megapixel camera can take good photos for the price. The colors are acceptable for what it is, and the details are fine. However, there were times where the software was having a hard time setting the exposure right, but in most occasions, it was able to nail it, thus providing a great contrast overall.

Next stop, let’s see how the camera performed with the AI scene detection mode turned on.

Unlike the first images that you saw, the pictures taken with the AI mode on now has richer colors and deep contrast.

Also, I like how the device was able to immediately detect the subject that I’m about to take — whether it’s food, landscape, plants — thus applying the right amount of adjustments that are necessary to lift up a specific image. This is all thanks to its capable processor.

Next stop, we have some indoor and night shots. And as what you’ll see below, the camera struggles a bit when there’s a limited light source. Noises and grains are starting to appear and it’s having a hard time getting the right focus.

Now let’s talk about the secondary 2-megapixel depth-sensor. This dedicated camera is here for the portrait/bokeh mode to work really well. Was it able to do its job right? Check out our samples below.

Thanks to that extra sensor and its great edge-detection capabilities, the HONOR 8C was able to take a really convincing DSLR-like effect. It also uses the right amount of background blur to make it look realistic.

Of course, we also have the 8-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies, and this is how it performed:

If you love taking selfies, then you’d surely appreciate the HONOR 8C. It may not have the best quality out there, but for the price, it surely is passable.

Well, that’s it for now. If you’re into mobile photography or you just like capturing moments to share on your loved ones and friends online, but you’re really on a budget. Then you might want to consider the HONOR 8C.

This device is now available nationwide for a price of only Php7,990. If you haven’t decided yet, you can check out our full review.
