O+ USA has been teasing its latest flagship smartphone via Facebook with the hashtags #comingsoonoplus and #oplusair, and now the wait is over. The O+ Air is finally official, boasting an octa-core processor and a 5-inch HD display.

Similar to why the iPad went with the “air” element as part of its name, the O+ Air implies a lightweight handset and a thin profile. By weighing only 115g and measuring 6.8mm at its thickest point, this phone does deliver. It doesn’t hold a new record for being the world’s thinnest smartphone, a title still being held by the Gionee Elife S5.5, but it’s nonetheless quite thin despite sporting a metal back plate.

The O+ Air is also notable for its new Lumi display, which is made of a dual-crystal luminescent film that’s capable of producing “real life colors” without sacrificing the battery life.

As of this writing, this is still the only one of few local handsets to come preloaded with the latest Android 4.4 KitKat. That, and O+ USA also promises wireless software updates via Wi-Fi or mobile data. Apart from the O+ Innovations already found in older devices (import/export SMS, flip to silent, call-and-type, shake to answer), the O+ Air also features “peace detection” (which is probably like smile shot mode but uses the peace sign to trigger the shutter), message encryption, and anti-theft.

Anyone living in Metro Manila will be able to buy the O+ Air from O+ USA kiosks and stores there. It will sell on the first week of June at a special introductory price of Php13,995. Its regular price will be Php15,995. It comes with a free 8GB SanDisk memory card and exclusive Sennheiser earphones.

  1. Hi sir Conan,, thank you for the reviews.!!.. There’s just one thing I ( ..and I’m sure some concerned Pinoys) would like to know, Some 8 or so months ago, there were some serious accusations in the Net that O+ usa were re-branding some other brand’s units ( if I remember right, it was the unheard of brand Prestigio).. To me this is a serious matter & should be address/answered satisfactorily by O+ !! Can you help us please to know if there is some truth to this ? BTW I own an 8.16 unit (bought it before I heard/read the accusations). So far I’m satisfied w/ its performance !

    1. There are many octacore phones. And there is a cheaper Lenovo octacore phone, but they must focus on Chinese markets first.

  2. what in the world is that LUMI display thingy? lol think they can fool people for that? LMAO!
