The smartphone market has soared in the first quarter of 2021, according to market analyst firms.

Per data from IDC, 347 million smartphone units have been shipped in Q1 2021 worldwide, which is equivalent to a 27% year-on-year growth. Similarly, analyst firm IDC revealed a slightly more modest shipment at 346 million, or 25.5% growth.

During the quarter, data shows that Samsung has overtaken Apple as the top smartphone vendor. Canalys estimates that the South Korean tech giant has shipped 76.5 million devices, which is 22% of the market share.

Apple, meanwhile, only shipped 52.4 million iPhones—a 15% market share. It’s reported that the iPhone 12 Mini didn’t sell well as expected, and demand for older iPhone models has instead helped buoy Apple’s market share.

Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo make up the rest of the top five smartphone companies in terms of market share. Combined, these Chinese companies command a 35% market share during the quarter.
