A successor to the first Xperia ZL has been announced. The new Sony Xperia ZL2 offers high-end specs a la the flagship Z2 but in a more compact design.

Whereas the original Xperia ZL was the cheaper, smaller variant of the former flagship Xperia Z, the Sony Xperia ZL2 is also a trimmed-down version but of the Xperia Z2. The ZL2 only measures 137mm long and 72mm wide, whereas the Z2 measures 146.8mm by 73.3mm. The former, however, failed to make itself slimmer and is actually thicker than the latter by 2.6mm.

In front of the Sony Xperia ZL2 is its 5-inch Triluminos display with 1080p resolution. It makes use of the company’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2 and X-Reality for an enhanced viewing experience. Running under the hood is a blazingly fast quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, along with Adreno 330 graphics and a generous 3GB RAM. A plentiful user storage capacity comes onboard, supplemented by an even more vast 128GB external storage capacity.
