Amid work-related benefits that job seekers traditionally look for, such as higher salaries and perks, today’s work-seeking individuals are now seeking the ability to work at home as the most appealing.

JobStreet, the Philippines’ premier job portal, claims that in light of surging job opportunities in the market which are not equally matched by available qualified jobseekers, those fitting have become more selective.

Candidate Marketing Lead for JobStreet by SEEK, Rafael Inigo Dela Cruz, said that employers are fighting to get their candidates through benefits.

Dela Cruz, however, highlights the ability to work from home as bigger than any other benefits that may be on offer among job candidates.

In a startling revelation, dela Cruz claimed that only 14 percent of job seekers nowadays are willing to work onsite.

That is a dramatic drop in the percentage of Filipino job finders who are amenable to working at the office when 58 percent were still okay with the idea of commuting for work and not calling home the workplace before the pandemic hits.

With insight into the dynamics of the workforce, Dela Cruz associates the increase in job availability with the rebound of the economy that comes following repercussions caused by global pandemic.

Not only have jobs returned, but it also appears that some job opportunities have grown “exponentially” during the recovery phase. Specifically, in the e-commerce industry where the demand for additional manpower has risen “astronomically,” per Dela Cruz.

In a statement issued by the state statistic bureau on Friday, the drop in employment to 4.3 percent in May was the second lowest in the country since April 2005.
