Anthropic, a competitor to OpenAI, has introduced the newest version of its Claude chatbot, named Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which it claims will elevate industry standards for Artificial Intelligence (AI).

According to Anthropic, Claude 3.5 Sonnet surpasses other models in various evaluations. The company also asserts that this new model performs better than its more expensive Claude Opus, while maintaining the cost efficiency and speed of its mid-tier Sonnet model.

This release marks the debut of Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 models, aimed at competing with OpenAI’s recently launched GPT-4o back in May 2024.

Anthropic states that this version of Claude Sonnet operates at double the speed of its predecessor, making it suitable for complex tasks. It reportedly shows significant improvements in understanding nuances, humor, instructions, and producing high-quality content with a natural, relatable tone.

This announcement comes just over a month after Anthropic launched its Claude chatbot in Ireland and Europe, and only a few months after revealing its Claude 3 family of models. The company has quickly gained significant attention and is backed by major tech giants, including Amazon, Google, and Salesforce.

Claude 3.5 Sonnet is now freely accessible on Claude.ai and through the Claude iOS app. Those who want to use it extensively can subscribe to Pro and Team plans to get higher usage limits.
