EastWest Bank has released an official statement regarding the issues hounding GCash.

A day ago, Filipino netizens turned to social media to complain about losing funds on their GCash e-wallets. As it went viral, more and more users shared that they experienced the same issue.

While GCash was investigating the reports, customers’ inability to access their funds and transact as usual caused an even bigger uproar online. But after the unusually long maintenance period, GCash finally went back up by 2PM today.

Based on a report by Inquirer, the lost funds were related to a Php37 million hacking attempt, which GCash was able to prevent. The e-wallet platform said that affected users should have their money back on their wallets by now.

As for EastWest Bank, this prompted an internal investigation, as the money taken from GCash users were reportedly sent to an alleged EastWest Bank account. You can read the full media statement below.
