A few years ago, Google used to reveal Android distribution figures on a regular basis. Now, the company has stopped the practice and only publish such data on an irregular basis.

But now, we finally have the numbers, which reveal that the distribution for the latest Android 13 update is at 12.1%. That’s more than double the figures in the first month of the year, which was just 5%.

This is big news as it’s a huge improvement over Android 12’s. In fact, it’s said that the new update may even beat its predecessor’s success, and even do it much faster.

While it looks optimistic, it still displays one of Anroid’s biggest issues for a long time: fragmentation. While the Android 13 adoption is expected to soar, there are still more Android 11 devices in the market at 23%. In fact, even the old Android 10 is prevalent at 18.5%

We’ve always known that this is inevitable for Android considering the tons of OEMs making different models at different price tags, with poor update commitment, and users still holding on to their old devices.

However, things might start to change as there are brands that want to turn things around. We have companies like Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, and Google themselves trying to improve their software commitment to longer software update support.
