The Finns and the Chinese are doing business together. Nokia and Xiaomi signs business and patent agreements.
Nokia, who is currently making a comeback, has partnered with Xiaomi, a brand known for selling a lot of things — mostly smartphones — at a reasonable price. And don’t freak out, because no one bought anyone. This new deal will let the two share each other’s resources to create something that is equally beneficial for both parties.
Under the agreement, Nokia is tasked to contribute network infrastructure types of equipment made to meet the high capacity, low-power requirements of big web providers and data center operators.
The two will then work hand in hand on optical transport solutions for data center interconnect, IP routing from Nokia’s new FP4 network processor. In addition, they’ll also work on a data center fabric solution.
The press release also stated that the two will be working on different areas. The companies will dig on Augmented and Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, and Internet of Things.
With this deal, we can expect nothing but new and innovative products. For the meantime, we’ll just have to wait and see.
