The developments in smartphone technology and design have focused on the display. From the shift to OLED panels, extra-thin bezels, display notches, and probably the most sensible innovation of all — in-display fingerprint scanners.
The first working prototype of this technology was showcased by Vivo back in CES 2018. Afterwards, the Vivo V20 Plus UD with the in-display fingerprint sensor was launched not long after.
That device was then followed by Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS, which not only had an in-display fingerprint scanner, but also an extra scanner at the back.
And now, it looks like OPPO will follow suit. The company has received a patent from the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO), which demonstrates how OPPO’s take on the technology would work.
Based on the reports, the sensor also works even when the screen is on. The implementation is different from the initial technology that Synaptics developed.
The SIPO document shows the technology being used in different other things like payment authorization. This means that OPPO will be introducing a new digital wallet in their future devices.
It is still unclear what OPPO device will have this feature, but we can expect such smartphone to arrive later this year.
