Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 - features

Qualcomm, one of the leading brands that powers most smartphones today, launches a new SoC for the mid-range devices at MWC Shanghai 2017. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 is a new member of their 400-line, a breed of chipset geared for budget gadgets.

Qualcomm is currently known for their flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 835. It powers most high-end devices today like the One Plus 5, Sony Xperia XZ Premium, and more. But other than these fancy devices, there’s still the other end of the spectrum — the budget smartphones. A category that actually has a larger market share than the high-end ones.

And this is where the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 comes along. The 400-line roots from the early years of smartphone popularity. With the sole purpose of delivering the best possible performance to mid-range devices, the Snapdragon 450 was born to deliver further advancements.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 improvements

  • Just like most updates, the Snapdragon 450 offers better and more efficient CPU and GPU performance. As per Qualcomm, this thing has 25% higher performance on both the processing and graphics department.
  • And since it is now more efficient, the Snapdragon 450 is expected to deliver up to 4-hours more battery life than the previous chips on the 400 line. And if it weren’t enough, this thing now also has a Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support that is said to let you go from 0% to 80% in just 35 minutes.
  • In the recent years, the smartphone industry had put their focus on the camera department. Hence, this new budget chipset will house Dual Image Signal Processors (ISP). This will support dual camera setups and can deliver real-time bokeh effect. It also has improved dynamic range and autofocus performance, and more post-processing prowess.
  • Last notable improvement is the integration of X9 LTE. This wireless technology from Qualcomm will bring up to 300Mbps download speeds and advanced WiFi with MU-MIMO to Snapdragon 450 devices.

We can expect the Snapdragon 450-equipped smartphones to arrive before the end of 2017, just in time for Christmas.
