Huawei-P10-and-P10-Plus-NoypiGeeks

Chinese giant Huawei admits that Huawei P10 and P10 Plus are using different memory chips with multiple specifications between LPDDR3, LPDDR4 chips, UFS 2.0, UFS 2.1, or eMMC 5.1 storage after Android Authority made an inquiry about the said issue.

The company insists that despite the said issue, no false claims or misleading marketing about the P10 were released. They stressed that none of its marketing promotions mentioned the memory used by the P10, never committing to a certain flash memory.

However, the performance of the phones are highly affected by this difference, There are significant changes between the phones that have the LPDDR3 chip instead of the LPDDR4 chip; between UFS 2.0, UFS 2.1 and eMMC 5.1 storage chips.

Because of this concerning fact, Huawei users want to know if they are getting an older version or a newer one.

LPDDR4 and UFS 2.1 are advertised by the company as the newer, faster chips while the LPDDR3 and eMMC 5.1 are seen as the older and slower combination. This means that not all the P10 and P10 Plus are as fast and updated as the others.

Huawei already said that the chip difference were not intentional and happened randomly. According to the company, it was based on the component shipped to them by their suppliers, no manual selection or period batches were done during production. “There were no discrimination or intention to defraud consumers, “ Huawei stressed.

With this said, getting the up-to-date P10 and P10 Plus phone is decided by luck. Just like the chips used, there is an equal chance of getting a Huawei P10 with the old chips and the new ones.

“Huawei has employed the standard industry practice of sourcing solutions from multiple trusted suppliers to ensure a balance between user experience, quality and sustainable supply,” the company said.

UPDATE: Huawei regrets its first statement on the issue, saying it was “arrogant”. However, there’s still no decision made whether or not there would be a device recall or if they would be providing customer compensation.

This is not the first time that this has happened. Samsung and their choice of SoCs on their flagship phones experience the same, whether it is with Exynos or Qualcomm chips. Even Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus varies with chips from either Intel or Qualcomm. Unfortunately, there will be differences between phones even if they are of the same model. Whether you get the faster one or not is just a matter of chance.
