Richard Yu, Huawei’s mobile chief, expresses deep regrets on how he reactedregarding the Huawei P10 memory scandal. In a letter initially distributed internally and later published to his Weibo account, Yu admits that his response was “inappropriate” and the company’s attitude about it was “arrogant”.

A few weeks ago, Huawei admitted that their new flagships, the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus, are using different memory chips with a huge discrepancy in speed. The company’s stance on the issue sure looks a little arrogant.

After Android Authority’s inquiry about the said issue, Huawei insists that they made no false claims and misleading marketing when the devices were released. But despite the company’s defensive statement, the difference in memory highly affects the performance of the device, which greatly concerns some Huawei owners.

The said letter appeared a day after the company brought back the mention of UFS 2.1 memory on the Huawei Mate 9‘s product web page. The company temporarily removed the UFS memory mention while they are confirming if all Mate 9 devices actually support it to “avoid confusion”. The UFS memory mention is now back on the device’s web page, which makes it safe to say that the Mate 9 is not affected by the same issue.

And because of this matter, Yu announced that he has formed a ‘customer listening task force’ and is also planning on leading the consumer business group management team during their visits on retails stores and service centers to spend time with their customers. But despite all of these thoughtful actions, the company said that there’s still no decision made whether or not there would be a device recall or if they would be providing customer compensation.

But with all that said, words are still just words. We still have to wait if the company would actually deliver anything they promised. If you’re planning on getting the new Huawei P10 devices, it’s best to wait a little bit unless you really need a new phone. Or if you already have one, then you are left with no choice but to wait for the manufacturer’s decision on how they are going to resolve the issue.
