iPhone-X-feature

Both LG and Samsung are Apple’s big partners when it comes to manufacturing displays currently in use with the iPhone 8/8 Plus and the iPhone X, respectively. But, while Samsung may be the company’s sole provider of OLED display for Apple’s current flagship device, this will all be set to change in 2018 with LG taking the helm.

According to the Financial Times, LG Display has seen a month-long hike to its shares last Wednesday when it was announced that the company has become Apple’s big partner for its upcoming iPhone produces for 2018.

A report from the Electronic Times further corroborated to the account by citing that LG is tasked to produce over 15 million OLED panels in preparation for Apple’s developing iPhone lineups for this year. Expectedly, the iPhone manufacturer is in the works for two 5.8-inch (or 6-inch) and a premium 6.5-inch device as successors to current generation’s iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X.

As if just a change of place, Samsung will not be left out in the dark, however. Instead of being replaced altogether, this giant Korean company will instead provide the needed OLED panels to the two 5.8-inch or 6-inch devices. LG, on the other hand, will be providing the necessary hardware counterpart for the top-of-the-line iPhone product.

As of the current iPhone line-up, LG unveiled via a regulatory filing an information which indeed suggests that it did not supply the OLED panel used with the iPhone X.
