OpenSignal Global Mobile Network Experience Awards 2021 has named Philippines’ Smart Communications Inc. once again as among the Global Rising Stars in terms of 4G availability improvement.
OpenSignal, an independent analytics firm, defines ‘Global Rising Stars’ as the top 30 network operators where users have experienced the greatest improvement in terms mobile network experience.
One of the categories is the most improved 4G availability. It is the proportion of time users spend connected to 4G LTE.
Smart Communications saw a 7.2% improvement in 4G availability from the second half of 2019 to the second half of 2020. That’s higher than the 4.2% global average.
Foreign operators that made it to the list include Vodafone of New Zealand, Free Mobile of France, MobiFone of Vietnam, and O2 of Germany.
The top 30 networks emerged from over 150 operators on 50 different countries.
As per OpenSignal, being in the top 30 in the world for year-on-year percentage improvement in even a single metric is a really impressive achievement. Especially if you consider all the challenges networks faced to improve their services during the health crisis.

Smart’s top competitor, Globe Telecom, also managed to be on the Global Rising Stars list under the Video Experience and Voice App Experience category. They were able to bring improvement to this segment during the same period.
