Samsung Gear Sport, Gear Fit2, and IconX

The Galaxy Note 8 might have skipped IFA 2017, but Samsung is still making a splash in Berlin’s tech convention. On its first day, the Korean tech giant announced the new Samsung Gear Sport, Gear Fit2, and IconX.

The new Samsung wearables are focused on fitness, just like the new Fitbit Ionic and pretty much any other wearable that are out today.

The Gear Sport and Gear Fit2 might differ in design, but they are essentially the same for the most part. The Samsung Gear Sport 2 looks more like your traditional watch with its rounded 1.2-inch AMOLED display. The ring on the bezel can also be rotated to navigate through the interface.

Like I said, the two might look different, but they share the same roots. Both the Gear Sport 2 and Fit2 will act as your standard smartwatch. It can receive notifications, make calls, and what not.

But more importantly, Samsung updated its “fitness” features that aim to blow both Fitbit and Garmin out of the water.  The new wearables have 5 ATM rating (50 meters) of water resistance. It also works with Speedo’s new training app to ensure it tracks your swimming activities well.

Samsung also partnered with Under Armour so you can gain access to their activity, nutrition, and fitness tracking apps. Spotify is also on board and lets you play music directly to either of the devices, with or without the smartphone, thanks to their 4GB of internal storage.

Lastly, we have the Samsung IconX, a cord-free wireless headphones.  If you hate how wires go dangling around during your workouts, then you might want to check this out. Other than being a speaker driver, it can also act as the actual music player. Each earbud packs 4GB memory so you can save music locally.

Furthermore, the IconX is also a fitness tracker, just like the first two wearables. It can automatically track your running activities and has a standalone Running Coach function.

What’s more interesting is, all three devices will work on both Android and iOS. Although we can expect them to work best on their home base.
