Samsung surely makes some of the best Android flagships in the market today. However, their low-cost offerings still leave a lot to be desired. So it goes without saying that the Samsung Galaxy J8 loses over the new OPPO F9 in terms of specs.
You can already see the Galaxy J8’s defeat on the processor used. Samsung relied on a Snapdragon 450 chipset for this device, a processor that we usually see on devices under the Php10k price range.

On the other hand, OPPO used a MediaTek Helio P60 processor. You can spot this same chipset in some high-powered midrange devices in the market today, and it’s actually on par with the best of the Snapdragon 600 series.
In addition, the Samsung Galaxy J8 settled for a 6-inch HD+ screen. It’s Super AMOLED panel might offer better colors, but for the price, we should already be getting an FHD+ panel. Something that the OPPO F9 clearly have.
Having a great camera is one of the features that are consumers are looking for on a smartphone. And if you’re one of those, you’d be excited to hear that the OPPO F9 has a 25-megapixel selfie camera, which is way better than the 16-megapixel front camera of the Samsung Galaxy J8.
However, the Galaxy J8 was able to make up for it by having a slightly better pair of rear cameras. It has a 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel shooters that are coupled with a wide f/1.7 aperture. On the other hand, the F9 only has a 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel primary cameras with a f/1.8 aperture and LED flash.
But then, the OPPO F9 quickly steals back the spotlight thanks to its VOOC fast-charging technology. Both devices have the same 3,500mAh battery, but OPPO’s speedy recharging technology makes the F9 more interesting to use.
To finally wrap it up, the Php17,990 OPPO F9 is definitely the better option between the two. Despite being Php2,000 more expensive than the Php15,990 Samsung Galaxy J8, the additional cost that you’d be paying is going to be really worth it.
