As the phone market becomes more and more competitive, brands tend to load up on better features and specs in order to separate themselves among their competitors. Both the OPPO Reno 2 and the Huawei Nova 5T are a great example of this.
At a glance, some people would instantly think that the Nova 5T is better than the Reno 2 and I won’t blame them if they do – but is it really that easy of a decision? Hopefully, this spec comparison will help clear things out.
Let’s talk about the OPPO Reno 2 first. The Reno 2 is a recently launched phone, along with the Reno 2F, that features a quad-camera set up. The best thing about its camera is the 5x Hybrid Zoom and 20x digital zoom capabilities. This camera feature allows you to zoom in and take a clear image of your subject – a feat not every phone can achieve.
The second phone is the Huawei Nova 5T. The Nova 5T is another recently launched phone that has a great design. The front camera is expertly hidden beneath the screen, which is very unique nowadays. Probably the best feature of the Nova 5T is its flagship-level processor.
Both phones have their own set of strengths and weaknesses but which is the best choice out of the two? Are you better off buying the well-known brand in Huawei or is the OPPO phone a wildcard capable enough of an upset? These are the questions we want to answer in our OPPO Reno 2 vs Huawei Nova 5T specs comparison.

As you can see, both phones are really different from each other. I’ll start with the display of the phones itself. The OPPO Reno 2 has a 6.5-inch AMOLED display while the Huawei Nova 5T has a 6.26-inch IPS LCD display only. This “small” difference in size might be very noticeable for other users. Also, the Nova 5T is not protected by Corning Gorilla Glass unlike the Reno 2 – so be careful not to drop your phone!
Probably the most imporant difference is the processor used. The Reno 2 is using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G while the Nova 5T has the HiSilicon Kirin 980. In this regard, the Nova 5T is unquestionably better. It is using the same processor of the Huawei P30 Pro (Which is more than twice its price!)
However, it looks like the Reno 2 steals the trophy in the camera department. The 5x hybrid zoom and 20x digital zoom capabilities are some of the main innovations that we currently saw this year and is enough to give the Reno 2 the win. Oh, did I forget to mention that the Reno 2 offers unique tricks and features such as a pop-up camera?
There are also some other minor things that make the Reno 2 a better option than the Nova 5T. For one, it has 256GB of storage (vs 128GB) and the battery size of 4,000mAh (vs 3,750mAh).

With all things said, it’s no surprise the OPPO Reno 2 takes the edge over the Huawei Nova 5T in some areas. Thanks to its camera; and bigger display size, storage, and battery size.
Let’s not sell the Huawei Nova 5T short though. Even though it lost this matchup, that is somewhat understandable as the Reno 2 is leaning towards the midrange-premium side while the Nova 5T is more in the middle.
Also, let’s not forget that even though it is a mid-range phone, Huawei was able to cram in a flagship-level chipset on this thing.
Bottom line, the Huawei Nova 5T is a really solid device for the price. However, if you want something more flashy and premium — and you don’t mind more, then you might really want to go with the OPPO Reno 2.
The OPPO Reno 2 will cost you Php28,990 while the Huawei Nova 5T retails for Php18,900.
