OPPO is one of the popular smartphone brands here in the Philippines.
And with the recent release of the OPPO Reno 3 – it’s only right that we compare it to its predecessor, the Reno 2.
Let’s start talking about the first phone in this specs comparison – the OPPO Reno 2. This one was just released in October 2019 here in the Philippines. It’s kind of odd seeing the OPPO Reno 3 being introduced already. Probably the best feature of the Reno 2 is its quad-camera setup and the pivot selfie shooter on the top.
The second phone in this list is the OPPO Reno 3. The best feature about the Reno 3 is its 5G connectivity and the cameras as well. It also has a quad-camera set up similar to the Reno 2.
You might be thinking – obviously, the Reno 3 has to be the better option right? Well, is that really the case? These are the questions we’re going to answer in this OPPO Reno 2 vs Reno 3 spec comparison.
Update 3/23/20: Added specs for the international/Philippine model of the Reno 3.

As you can see the two phones are fairly different from one another. An example of this is their displays. The OPPO Reno 2 has a bezel-less 6.5-inch AMOLED display while the OPPO Reno 3 has a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a notch on top.
The two phones are also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. However, the Reno 2 has a sturdier Gorilla Glass 6 at the front with Gorilla Glass 5 on the back. Meanwhile, the Reno 3 is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 back and front.
Processor wise, the OPPO Reno 3 is packed with an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 1000L chip. On the other hand, the Reno 2 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chip. The MediaTek chip is said to be better thanks to its benchmark results, even when compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chip of the Reno 3 Pro.

On the subject of front cameras, the OPPO Reno 2 has a 16-megapixel pop-up shooter compared to the 32-megapixel camera of the Reno 3 placed inside a more traditional waterdrop notch.
Both phones have a quad-camera setup on the back. The Reno 2 has a 48-megapixel main camera, 13-megapixel telephoto camera, 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 2-megapixel bokeh camera. Compared to the 64-megapixel main camera, 8-megapixel wide camera, 2-megapixel macro camera and 2-megapixel monochrome camera of the Reno 3.
On the topic of memory, the OPPO Reno 2 has an 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The Reno 3 gives you more options in the memory department with its 12GB model. Although the 256GB storage option is only exclusive to the Pro model, at least as of writing.
Battery wise, the Reno 3 slightly beats the Reno 2 thanks to its 4,025mAh Battery with a faster 30W VOOC 4.0 charging feature. Meanwhile, the latter has a 4,000mAh battery and only 20W VOOC 3.0 fast charging.
One of the biggest pros of the Reno 3 is its 5G connectivity, making it futureproof for 2020 and the years to come.
The Reno 2 is currently priced at Php28,990 while the Reno 3 is priced at CNY3,399 (~Php24,774.00) for the 8GB/128GB variant and CNY3,699 (~Php29,961.00) for the 12GB/128GB.
It is no surprise that the Reno 3 takes this match up. Thanks to its better front camera, faster processor, slightly bigger battery, 5G connectivity, and of course, its cheaper price, at least for the 8GB/128GB variant.
Although, once the OPPO Reno 3 is officially released here, we can expect the Reno 2 to have a price cut, thus making it a better option for those who want something more affordable.
