Xiaomi has launched their newest budget smartphones — the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus.
As expected, it is the company’s first affordable smartphones with the new 18:9 and incredibly thin bezels. Aside from the screen, it looks like Xiaomi is focusing its efforts in the camera department with its 12-megapixel rear sensor and 5-megapixel selfie camera with flash.
Xiaomi Redmi 5
First off, we have the Redmi 5 with a 5.7-inch HD+ display running on Snapdragon 450 CPU. There’s a decent 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage on the standard model, but those who require more RAM and storage can opt for the 3GB + 32GB variant.
Probably its best feature is its relatively large 3,300mAh battery capacity. Xiaomi claims that it can last for up to 12 in standby mode and two full days for mixed usage.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus
Just like any other ‘Plus’ smartphone, the Redmi 5 Plus is a little bit bigger in screen size and overall footprint. It features a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display and a more powerful Snapdragon 625 chipset. Like the standard Redmi 5, the configuration varies to either a 3GB + 32GB combination or a 4GB + 64GB.
Since it’s larger, it was able to accommodate more battery inside. According to the company, its 4,000mAh battery can last for over two days of usage and 17 days of standby.
Other specs of the two include a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth v4.2, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, A-GPS, and GPS. There’s no mention if there’s a facial recognition security feature, but a fingerprint sensor is located at the back as an alternative.
Color options are the following: Light Blue, Gold, Black, Rose Gold.
