Apple has released the biggest member to its AirPods TWS line, the aptly named AirPods Max.

The new AirPods Max features an over-ear design. It features a breathable knit mesh on the canopy and a stainless steel frame for great flexibility, comfort, and durability. It also has what Apple calls Telescopic Arms that extends for a better fit, which is attached to the anodized aluminum cups.

Each cups has mesh textile material for the pillow-like cushions. Apple’s signature Digital Crown, which seen on the Apple Watch line, gives a tactile feeling when controlling the volume, skip tracks, and answer calls.

Of course, it all has the bells and whistles in terms of audio quality. Apple designed special dynamic drivers that are said to offer rich and detailed sound. It also has dual-neodymium ring magnet motors to prevent distortion even at max volume.

Just like the new HomePod Mini, the Apple AirPods Max is big in computational audio. There’s the built-in H1 chip on each cup, Apple’s acoustic design and software, and six microphones. All this hardware is used for its active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency mode, and Adaptive EQ. It also has spatial audio and dynamic head tracking for a surround sound, theater-like experience.

Of course, it works seamlessly with the latest iPhone 12 series, M1 Macs, and other Apple devices with easy pairing and switching.

The Max also has the longest battery life in the AirPods line. As per Apple, this thing can last 20 hours of listening with ANC and spatial audio enabled. You can extend the battery life by disabling those features.

It comes with a Lightning to USB Type-C for charging, but no wall adapter. A Smart Case is also included in the box, which puts the AirPods Max in an ultra-low-power mode to preserve the battery.
